Bend The Rules

Three
flaws you want to cover? Here are make-up tricks that will do the
job!
Downplay
A Nose
Avoid outdated 'shading'
techniques, such as using a dark blush or powder on either side of your nose to
streamline its shape, says Cory Walia, celebrity make-up artist. This trick only
works in photos.
Try
smoothening a subtle shimmer cream (if your skin is normal to dry) or powder (if
your skin is oily) down the bridge of your nose to optically alter its size.
Tip: Make your lips or eyes
the focal point of your face, suggests Victoria's Secret make-up artist Charlie
Green. For example, go for heavily lined 'cat eyes' or bold, red lips.
We recommend: Giorgio
Armani Cosmetics Matte Silk Lipstick in
#5.
Sculpt
Cheekbones
Avoid blush brushes
with heads that are very small (like the ones that usually come in the compact)
and produce war paint-like stripes, or those that are extremely big and diffuse
colour all over your face.
Try using a standard-sized
powder brush to apply blush to your forehead, in the hollows of your cheeks and
just under your jaw to create a subtly sculpted effect. Be sure to work in
quick, light strokes so that colour doesn't settle noticeably in one spot.
Tip: The darker your skin,
the more pigment your blush should have. If your complexion is medium to dark,
you may even substitute bronzer for
blush.
We recommend:
CoverGirl CG Tanfastic Bronzer in
Soleil.
Small Eyes
Avoid overly plucked
brows. This may seem counter intuitive, but a wide expanse of skin between your
upper lashline and your brow will only call attention to how small your eyes
are, says movie make-up artist Kanta Motwane.
Try removing a few extra
hairs below the peak of your arches for a 'lifted' effect. Be sure to curl your
lashes and layer on plenty of lengthening mascara, too. (For best results, tip
your chin up, look down and clamp lash curler as close as possible to the base
of lashes.)
Tip: Wear one
soft colour - a golden tone if your complexion is medium to dark, or white if
it's fair - all over your lid from the lashline to below the brow to keep your
eyes from looking closed in.
We
recommend: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Cream Shadow Stick in Iced Beige.
