For the first time, two women from

FIRE
fighting is not a profession most women think of joining. But Meenakshi
Vijaykumar and Priya Ravichandran have dared to. And they are loving every bit
of it. For the first time in Indian history, two women have joined the fire
services of Tamil Nadu as Divisional Fire Officers.
The girls are
proud that the male bastion has been broken. ‘’We have to thank
Chief Minister Jayalalitha for this,’’ declares Meenakshi
Vijayakumar. ‘’It's she who has made it possible for women to shine
in all fields and think differently.’’
Priya joined the
services even though she is the mother of a little baby. ‘’I joined
the forces because it's a noble profession. We serve people in distress. I also
believe that women save by instinct. Protecting comes naturally to
them.’
