We chose MONICA VAZIRALI as our style queen

Well into her 50s and with white streaks in her hair, Monica Vazirali shows no signs of slowing down. Full of life and energy, she bounces from party to party with equal measures of gregariousness. It could be a brunch at Indigo, a formal evening of music and wine like at the recent Zubin Mehta-Vienna Philharmonic concert or a day at the races, Monica turns out looking charming and beautiful without a strand of hair out of place.

Her favourite colour is definitely white, but she loves a dashing red or a rich green and carries all her clothes, from very Western to very ethnic, with equal charisma.

Dressing as the occasion demands comes naturally to her. Style is her forte. She keeps healthy and in good shape and always wishes to be as slim as she was 20 years ago. Monica Vazirali keeps up with fashion trends, but adapts them to suit her age and shape.

Her choice is expensive, and while her clothes are non-fussy and elegant, Monica Vazirali adds a touch of panache with her choice of jewellery.

GOA CHATTER
Watch out for: Syne Coutinho who is quietly making inroads into the Goan fashion scene. A self-taught designer, who learnt the ropes of the business working for Camelot for three years before coming into her own, Syne gives creativity new expression using simple, minimalistic styling on chiffon, crepe, silk and gauze in vibrant casuals and semi-formals. Mixing colour, layered looks and fine embroidery are a hit locally, while a steady clientele ensures that her collection goes off the racks immediately.
Retails from Tito’s and Madame Butterfly in Goa

HYDERABAD CHATTER
Watch out for: Varsha Mahendra. It all started with a fashion export house in Delhi. Now, settled in Hyderabad, Varsha designs both women and menswear lines.

Her current Spring/Summer Collection comprises evening wear in dyed crepes with extensive use of Swarovski, sequins and very fine thread embroidery. The short, slim-cut kurtas worn with fitted churidars come in a range of interesting colour schemes.
Prices range between Rs 1,500 and Rs 8,000 and she also custom makes work wear for women in linen, jute and textured cottons.
Retails from Oorja, Origins and Also, Hyderabad. Varsha can be contacted at 040-27623135 and 040-27665177
