DO
you prefer smoky eyes with a soft glossy mouth or minimal eyes with a red
lipstick? Whatever your preference, it can speak volumes about your personality.
Let's look at some of the classic make-up styles and what they may say about the
person that wears them.
Classic
Celeb
example: Catherine Zeta Jones
This
is a woman who is most comfortable with well-defined eyes, groomed brows and
some eyeliner. If she wears eyeshadow, it will be more to do with shaping than
shimmer and sparkle. Her most important piece of make-up is her lipstick, most
likely red. Glossy lips aren't really her scene: A bit too frivolous. Her
make-up is not so much adornment as part of her image. This look is stunning
with both a business suit and an evening dress, and is perfect for women who
often go from office to evening without a break.
Romantic
Celeb
example: Preity Zinta
Think
pastels. Her favourite make-up colours are pink and peach. Shimmer is good, as
is gloss. This make-up personality enjoys applying her face but will never wear
too much... a little goes a long way. Her make-up is flirtatious and girlie, but
without ever pushing the boundary. If any item of make-up screams out and draws
attention to itself, it probably won't appeal to a romantic make-up personality.
She doesn't wear hard lines, and has such great skin that a concealer is
completely unnecessary.
Dramatic
Celeb
example: Rekha
For
our dramatic make-up personality, the old rule of only focusing on either the
eyes or lips is a load of rubbish! Why cheat one feature when you can trowel
make-up onto both? She likes heavy eye make-up and strong lips. Lots of liner
and leaving the house without mascara is tantamount to leaving the house naked!
She loves make-up and enjoys experimenting with colours. She most likely has
enough make-up to open a small shop. She is also most likely to be meticulous
about making sure her make-up looks as good at the end of the day as it did at
the beginning. For the dramatic... pretty much anything goes.
Gamine
Celeb
example: Winona Ryder
Make-up
for the gamine is a give or take. Sometimes she will, sometimes she won't. If
she does wear it, it could be anything from a slick of lipgloss to a smear of
luminous hot pink shadow. Because gamine girls tend to be quite angular and
elfin, they suit quirky make-up. Even the most outrageous trend will look fine
on our gamine, though she probably won't bother to put on the entire make-up...
just the piece she happens to be in the mood for! Oh, and by the way, she is not
wearing it for you, it is for her, so if you don't like it she isn't going to
lose any sleep over it.
Ditzy
Celeb
example: Kariena Kapoor
Our
ditz loves make-up, but the only qualifier is that it must be exceptionally
girlie. Sparkly, shimmery, glittery, glossy, whatever the going offer is. Matte?
Not on your life. And should fun textures be saved for evenings? No way. She is
probably also going to be wearing high heels with her jeans, and sequins in the
daytime. Bless her. We love the ditz and she is usually not only the life of the
party, but the comic relief in any situation... and we mean that in the nicest
of ways. She loves life, and make-up is all a bit of fun. It's about colour and
textures, and if it ain't fun, why bother?
Hussy
Celeb
example: Mallika Sherawat
Are
you surprised? Make-up is her weapon. If it doesn't give the power to kill, the
weapon is not effective. This make-up personality likes black liner, black
mascara, strong lipcolour, and enough lipgloss to float a boat. She also doesn't
mind foundation looking like foundation. Make-up is not a subtle illusion.
Sometimes, this make-up personality will actually be another personality in the
daytime... keeps 'em guessing, but usually a hussy is a hussy - day or
night!
Natural
Celeb
example: Meg Ryan
Make-up?
What's that? If we are lucky, for a big evening out, the natural make-up
personality might put on a tinted moisturiser, a lick of mascara and some clear
gloss. Otherwise her make-up bag consists of mascara and a case of lip balm.
Sometimes this is because she simply doesn't need it, but other times, it is
because she just can't be bothered.
Glamour
Puss
Celeb
example: Yana Gupta
Think
movie stars and limousines. She looks like a 1940s film star, with perfect skin,
black liquid liner, false lashes and plum lipstick. Everything will be applied
with the utmost care and stay looking picture perfect until the paparazzi turn
off their flashes.
The
glamour Puss never leaves the house without her face on... actually she might
not even answer the door! Make-up gives the illusion of perfection whether it is
for coffee with her best girlfriend or a film premiere. She likes the same sort
of look with a tailored suit or an evening gown.
Unfortunate
Celeb
example: We're not telling!
For
our unfortunate, make-up is not really going to help, now, is it? Whatever she
puts on, she will still look like she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every
branch on the way down... twice! Then bounced. Sad. Save your money, dear, and
put it away towards some surgery.
