Not so long ago, on a weekend, a bunch of my friends decided to go on a picnic. I had prior commitments and therefore couldn't accompany them but, on repeated requests from a close friend, I promised to join them a day later. Next day, I embarked on the 200-km drive, all alone, just for him, my friend, that is.

En route, closer to home than to the destination, much to my irritation, I had a flat tyre and the clutch gave way, too. I could have easily phoned them and called off my journey altogether, but I didn't want to. I also knew it would make him happy if I made it. So, instead of turning back and heading home, I waited for what seemed like ages at the mechanic's, got my car fixed and continued the journey to reach my destination - all for a couple of hours with him.

Just friends? Naah! No way. After much pondering, I gathered enough give-away clues pointing towards what we shared - definitely not a simple friendship!

Have you been there too? Is there a man among your friends for whom you feel a certain something that's not quite just friendship? Keep your ears and eyes open and grab those subtle hints. Stop fooling yourself. And stop fooling everyone else around you. Listen to friends who insist they see something you don't. Not everyone's as slow as you are, you know.

You have always shared a smoke with him, but one fine day, as you take in a drag, he politely asks for the cigarette and chucks it outta the window! And, he has this look in his eyes that seems to plead, "Please don't! For my sake!" And, wonder of wonders, you (with all your independent 'My lungs, my life' attitude) don't mind - in fact, you want to kick this habit - after all isn't it harmful? However, had it been anyone else, you would have made clear your extreme displeasure at this 'unpardonable' act! Just friends, are you?
