It's wedding time, folks! And designers all over have been working overtime to create those gasp-worth creations. The designer duo Amber & Shirrin haven't lagged behind. Check out their design maxim and see if it suits your personality or your pocket. Available at their couture store in Bandra. And if you aren't tying the knot and want to go for the ready-to-wear, their prêt store at Phoenix Mills, Mumbai, might have some styles for you.

Stepping High

For Dilip Kapur, owner of Hidesign, the internationally acclaimed brand of leather designer wear and accessories, it was a high-stepping evening of fun and fashion. Together with his wife Jacqueline (who's into designing fashion garments and running Casablanca, a trendy mall in Pondicherry) and all their friends from the international community at Auroville, he showcased their latest line in leather. Well-known models walked the ramp in the damp heat of Pondicherry with leather garments clinging to their lean long bodies. The boys swung their leather bags and stomped into the dark night as the music screamed, "Schumacher! Schumacher!" The crowd was ecstatic. For not only was the evening sponsored in part by Sula wines which flowed liberally up and down the glass staircase at Le Duleix, (the newly opened heritage hotel that has been started by Kapur and friends), but a group of Flamenco dancers from Auroville set the ramp aflame with their castanet-clicking dancing down the ramp.

Hidesign has always attempted to promote its own environmentally friendly look with the use of tanning methods using vegetable extracts, wax and oil-based treatments and rugged stitching that looks like the old-fashioned hand-made variety. Their line of sports jackets in white leather with red and black trims, with matching accessories such as briefcases, computer bags and overnight cases were a runaway success. Quite apart from anything else, the Hidesign range also manages to be eminently affordable.

Peaceful

It might not be THE modish take you're looking for but it sure deserves a second look. It's creativity with a cause. Raj Creations Design Studio (Estd 1967), Delhi, has T-shirts in 'khadi' that are priced at Rs 300. Nothing new? Read on. They are a tribute to the 'Messenger of Peace' Mahatma Gandhi (you get printed quotes of the Father Of The Nation on'em). The sale proceeds would go to Project Why (www.projectwhy.org), an organisation working with a Gandhian spirit for the upliftment of the underprivileged in Delhi.
