Kiss & Make-Up

|
Whether it's a blind date or a special
night out for you and your significant other, we've got ways to make you look
your stunning best!
With the help of Delhi-based make-up artist Deepa
Verma, we've created some sexy night time looks to transform model Laxmi Rana
for three very different dates. Just follow Deepa's expert advice to make these
looks your own!
CLASSIC GLAM
You
have a formal dinner and theatre date with your husband for your anniversary.
We've dressed our model up to be you. As a tribute to the bold beauty of the
'80s Deepa turned Laxmi from pretty to pretty amazing. She used contouring and
bold colour to brighten Laxmi's skin and add depth and drama to her eyes.
Deepa feels that most women have skin that is more dehydrated than
they know, so she likes to mix a bit of moisturiser in with the foundation for a
beautiful dewy finish. Apply the mixture of full coverage foundation and
moisturiser evenly all over the face and blend well with a make-up sponge.
Using a warm brown pressed powder and an angled blush brush, Deepa
contoured Laxmi's face by applying colour under the cheekbones and jaw line,
making sure to blend well. To brighten and add colour to Laxmi's skin, Deepa
used a warm rose blush on the apples of her cheeks. Apply colour lightly at
first and then slowly build to the desired intensity.
Deepa feels a
mistake many Indian women make is only going with dark, intense colours for
blush, which can leave the skin looking dull and drab. A bright pop of colour
can really work to illuminate the skin.
To highlight the eyes, use
your fingers and dab pink bronze cream shadow all over the lids, from lashes to
brow.Working with a tapered shadow brush, apply the same colour you used to
contour your face to the brow bone, blending well. With a black eyeliner pencil,
line the inside of both your top and bottom lashes. Use the same pencil and mark
a small triangle at the outer corner of the upper lid.
Use a
blending brush to work this colour until it is a soft and smoky 'V'. Extend this
colour beyond the corner of the eye and up into the crease.
Using a
bronze powder shadow, go over the liner colour on the outside of the lid to
soften and set the black. Apply a light, metallic pink shadow to the inner
corner of the lid, under the outer half of the brow and along the lower lash
line to highlight the eye.
Mix a frosted pearl lavender lip colour
and a clear gloss together and apply using a lip brush. Then add a coat of the
clear or more of the frosted pearl lip colour.
SMOKE ALARM
The
'smoky eye' look never goes out. And while you may think you know what this look
entails, you probably haven't tried it with the new metallic and frosted shades.
Working with metallic purples and sheer blacks, Deepa transformed Laxmi into a
sexy, smouldering siren for a high-glitz party.
If you're ready to heat up
your look, just follow Deepa's steps and you'll be smokin' in no time!
Moisturise your skin, then mix sheer foundation with a shimmering bronzing
liquid to give the make-up a radiant coppery look. Apply your foundation using a
sponge. Use a mix of foundation and concealer - so it's easier to blend. Using a
concealer brush, apply a bit of it under your eyes, on the eyelids and any
blemishes.
Using a rich orange brown powder blush, Deepa applied
colour to the apples of Laxmi's cheeks, blending it back towards the hairline.
Use small circular motions. Next, go over the blush colour with a light peach
powder to create glowing highlights. Line your lips with pencil in a soft nude
colour. With a lip brush, apply warm beige pink lip colour with enough gloss to
give it a wet look. Deepa believes the bronze pink colours extend the look of a
summer tan.
First, apply a pale silver-beige eye shadow all over the lid
as a base coat. You can also use it to highlight the cheekbones just under the
eye. Then, working with a warm bronze shadow, use a blending brush to sweep the
colour across the eyelid and up into the crease. Start the colour lightly and
build the intensity up slowly.
Using a dark eye gloss, Deepa gave a
wet look to the lids.
To set the gloss and add a little sizzle to
the look, Deepa pressed a shimmering metallic lilac brown shadow over the gloss
and used a liner brush to also press this colour into the lower lash line. It's
important to press the colour and not sweep it. If you sweep, you'll end up with
a lot of shadow fallout.
Line the inside of both the top and bottom
lashes with a black pencil liner. Go back over the bottom lashes, running the
pencil along the outer edge. Make sure to blend and slightly smudge this. The
key to a smokey look is all in the blending. There should be no hard lines. As a
finishing touch, apply mascara to both your top and bottom lashes.
Deepa used mostly MAC, Bobbie Brown and other professional products
for this series.
FALLEN ANGEL
Even
good girls can go bad, and nowhere is this more evident than in this sultry,
smouldering look. Deepa combined soft, dusky pinks along sultry plums and edgy
ebony to give Laxmi a glowing, angelic look tinged with devilish drama that
would make her stand out. If you're going club hopping with a couple of guy
friends, this is what you do:
First, apply moisturiser to prime the
skin. Next, apply a sheer-finish foundation all over the face and on the eyelids
with a large brush. Blend with fingers. Mix your concealer with a small amount
of foundation and use a concealer brush to apply it under the eyes, on the chin
and above the lips. "Often, the area around the mouth is a bit darker than the
rest of the face, especially when your skin tone's brown, and should be evened
out with concealer," explains Deepa. Apply powder with a brush to set the
make-up.
To give Laxmi's cheeks an innocent glow, Deepa used a cream
blush in cherry red. Because this shade is so vivid, it's important to build the
colour up slowly. Squeeze a small amount of blush onto the back of your hand and
then use a make-up sponge to lightly dab the colour onto the apples of the
cheeks, blending back into the hairline.
It's important to respect
the natural shape of your eyebrows and not shade them heavily. Remember, they
are sisters - not twins. Deepa applied a deep aubergine powder to Laxmi's brows
with a brush.
Sweep pale lavender shimmer shadow all over the
eyelid. Also, dust a small amount of this colour on cheekbones as a highlighter.
Apply a reddish-purple cream eye shadow to the lid, starting at the lash line
and blending up into the crease.
Then press a cranberry shadow into
the lower lash line with an angled liner brush. Make this line thinner at the
inner corner of the eye, thicker towards the outer edge. Line the inside of the
lower lash line with a plummy brown eyeliner pencil. Go over this line with a
bronze shimmer powder - this will blend the pencil line in and create a smokey
look. Dust a small amount of the lavender lid colour on the inner corner of the
eyelid and the inner half of the bottom lash line.
Run a black
eyeliner outside your lower lashes and softly smudge the colour. Use a black
pencil on the upper lid - make this a slightly thick line and use a shading
brush to blend it up and out for a hazy 'bad girl' effect. Finish off with some
black mascara.
Apply a soft but deep red shimmer lipstick using a lip
brush. Top this with a coat of pale pink gloss.
Laxmi loved the way
Deepa used bright colours to create this funky look.
