Little
Somethings

The special things that make a marriage work may seem to be small
day-to-day things, but they definitely go a long way in making the relationship
work.
“The most important thing for me,” says Javed, “is
that she lets me be me.”
For Prakash, it’s the fact that she
cooks for him every morning —“despite the fact that I tell her not
to,” he hastens to add! For Narendra, the way to his heart is also through
his tum! “She cooks all the dishes I like,” he says simply. Hemen
appreciates the fact that Rinku continues to give him cards on special
occasions.
The women had a lot more to talk about than food! “I quit
working for some time because of a personal crisis, and later, it was Hemen who
encouraged me to start doing something again,” says Rinku. Jennifer enjoys
being pampered, so each morning Javed has the tea and the newspapers ready when
she gets out of bed.
After A Quarrel
The occasional quarrel always arises, but is it that easy to resolve? Saying
sorry is not so difficult for these couples who pretty much can’t live
without talking to each other for too long. “I’m the one who has to
do all the talking after a fight as he just keeps it all bottled in,” says
Jennifer.
Ditto for Sadhvi, who always has to take the first step, or, as
she says, “Varun will just keep quiet for days on end.” While
Prakash and Lisa said that they don’t really quarrel much, when they do,
it’s Prakash who willingly says sorry
first.
Being
Together
And what happens during quiet times, when just the two of them
are alone?
Javed and Jennifer enjoy playing board games, solving crossword
puzzles and generally loafing on the streets of Mumbai. “For us,
it’s just important that we spend time alone,’’ say Narendra
and Natasha.
Ditto for Hemen and Rinku who prefer to just go out alone
— whether it’s window-shopping or simply going for a walk.
Prakash and Lisa treasure their free time together on weekends. Prakash
says, “Spending time together need not mean going anywhere or doing
anything in particular.”
Contrary to popular belief, romance need
not be an alien factor after marriage. And as far as these guys are concerned,
it seems to be the key binding ingredient in their relationships. Here’s
looking at ya!
KEEP THE
FEELING ALIVE
* Nothing beats quality time together. * Make up after
a spat, and move on. * Sentiments come through in the smallest gestures, not the
biggest. * Take pride in each other’s achievements and encourage
individual hobbies.
