GOA CHATTER

Courting Couture: Who says only city fashionistas understand
fashion? Twenty-three young Goan designers synergised fluidity of fabric and
monsoon moods to interpret silhouettes inspired by flashes of Nature, the rhythm
of colour and elements of the season, at a fashion show hosted at Park Hyatt Goa
Resort & Spa. Show choreographed by Marc Robinson, models Vidisha Pavate,
Diandra Soares, Waluscha Robinson and Kelly Dorji walked the ramp in garments
designed by students after a five-week long Entrepreneurial Development
Programme on High Fashion Design and Technology.

The course was organised courtesy the combined efforts of the
Small Industries Service Institute, the National Small Industries Corporation
and NIFT, Mumbai. Ramp chutzpah notwithstanding, Ana Elisa Lobo (Acid Rain
Collection), Christie and Macklyn (Twilight) and Savio Bruto DaCosta (Rust)
packaged traditional style into funky Western prêt collections. However,
budding designers must understand that a garment’s forte lies in its
finish. Subtle embellishment, and neat styling on workable fabrics like khadi,
tissue and cotton drew applause from an appreciative
audience.
Victorian Rush

South Goa gets into the buzz of things, with
‘COSTAVIO’ a design store by model-designer Savio Bruto DaCosta, set
in the cosy Portuguese bylanes of Margoa. Specialising in made-to-order garments
with delicate interlacing, intricate cutwork, appliqué and embroidery,
Savio’s design sensibilities draw inspiration from contemporary Victorian
style, lace and romanticism.
Popular for his
two-pieces and sexy corsets (Priced Rs 1,500 onwards), the designer also offers
clients a selection of affordable bridal packages (Priced Rs 10,000 onwards)
which means at any given season, the store is a beehive of frenetic activity.
Very haute!

A Bite Of Melonz

Melonz — the store in Margoa is back with a bang. The store
launches its own highly addictive collection called Hash & Heroin — a
young, vibrant and colourful line that’s very attractively priced. The
collection for men and women includes the latest styles and designs on a wide
range of kurtas, kurtis, shirts and tops. A mid-monsoon sale of designer
garments by Priyadarshini Rao, Renu Bothra, Ranji Kelekar, Dipty and Tarpana
Shah goes hot off the racks too. Also available is a range of Polaroid
sunglasses for a tip to toe fashion statement.
