A firm believer in destiny and a self-professed foodie with an
irrepressible penchant for travel. Welcome Channel [V]’s latest addition,
Shruti Seth
Track Record:
Modelling assignments for Brooke Bond, Tata Home Finance, Frooti and
Kinetic Honda.
Television:
Hosted a Bollywood show, Leherein. Acted in soaps like Shararat, Mann and
Josh.
All right, Let’s look at the prerequisites needed to be a
veejay, shall we?
Attitude:
Loads of it.
Appearance:
Well, you are going to be on television, aren’t you?
Style:
Not so much what you
wear but how you make it look.
Intelligence:
You’ll
be shooting off your mouth in front of millions of people — you better
know what you are saying, right?
Enthusiasm:
All right, not
the kind where you look like you are on some serious Prozac, but a pleasing
exuberance that holds the viewers.
Well, we give you Shruti, who has
all this in just the right balance.
But then, lots of fresh faces are
doing the rounds of different television channels with all this and more. So
what exactly is so different about Shruti, you wonder.
Sincerity:
That’s what
sets her apart from the others. When she started out, she was a wee bit nervous
— you could tell.
But she didn’t try to hide it behind
nonsensical jokes and exaggerated hand movements that veejays seem to specialise
in (honestly, you’d think they have a special veejay course just to wave
their hands around wildly and point at the camera). No, she laughed at herself
and her awkwardness in front of the camera melted away, and instantly scored
with the viewers.
“Pinch me, it’s like a dream,”
says the excited 25-year-old economics and commerce graduate from St Xaviers
College, Mumbai, confessing that she’s finally realised her childhood
ambition, to be a veejay.
And now that she’s jumped onto the
VJ bandwagon, will we see Shruti make her move to the big screen soon?
Well, she’ll definitely be worth the wait now, won’t
she?
