9 Months!

Are you a mommy-to-be and concerned about your wardrobe? P S Bhavana puts together a few dos and don'ts
Remember 'Nine Months', the movie that grabbed your attention with the dainty Julianne Moore and the floppy-haired charmer Hugh Grant doing their numbers? Doesn't Rebecca (Julianne) look pretty in her long dresses, flouncy tops and swishy skirts? How you wish you could be as stylish as her during the gain-weight-by-the-week period! Even though your happiness is directly proportional to your getting bigger, pregnancy also means buying new things. But to look stylish, you cannot afford to change your entire wardrobe! Bust That Fit
Style is important, but not at the cost of comfort! Look for attractive clothes that are comfortable. They shouldn't restrict your movements, your blood flow or increase your chances of tripping. Dr Kiran Coelho, Gynaecologist and head of department at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, says, "Pregnant women tend to sweat more, so light clothing is the best option. Synthetics are a big no-no. Jeans or tight clothes should be avoided. Elasticated or flannel trousers are safe bets. In summers, they should avoid dark colours as those shades absorb heat." During winter, just make sure that you're warm, cosy and layered. Also, innerwear is of supreme importance as it is closest to your body. If you're in the mood for slinky and sexy lingerie, make sure that you go for cotton styles. Avoid thongs and slippery fabrics. 'Granny panties' could be your best friends for a while. Dr Coelho says, "Wear cotton bras that support the bust. And since the cup size increases, old bras will not fit well. Cotton panties are great options." Comfortable, low-heeled shoes are essential too. Avoid completely flat sandals as they put pressure on the arch of the foot. Wear slightly loose laced-up shoes to accommodate the swelling due to fluid retention in the later months.
